Professional Event – IoT Workshop

Event Date:
May 8, 2024

Local professionals engaged in technical discussions surrounding Internet of Things (IoT) applications during an interactive “IoT 101 Workshop.”

The workshop was sponsored by an AFRL-led ecosystem, Open-Architecture, Resilient IoT for Operational Networks (ORION), to introduce local professionals to Internet of Things (IoT) technology. “IoT 101” was hosted at the Innovare Advancement Center in Rome, NY.

Professionals in a variety of roles in government, industry, academia, and non-profit interacted in the event’s instruction, networking, and panel discussions. “IoT 101” focused on defense-related IoT research with applications that expand to a broad range of industries.

This workshop unveiled Department of Defense-sponsored research and developments in IoT technologies, explored common use cases, and discussed the growing use of IoT in diverse industries and how organizations can benefit from the technology.

“IoT 101” was sponsored by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) through ORION, which is a state-of-the-art ecosystem operated by subject matter experts to facilitate the development, test, and evaluation of IoT solutions. ORION is a collaborative effort between AFRL, Assured Information Security (AIS), Quanterion Solutions, the Griffiss Institute, and the New York State Technology Enterprise Corporation (NYSTEC). The workshop will be hosted at Griffiss Institute’s Innovare Advancement Center.

Topics included IoT applications for the Department of Defense as well as for commercial use, IoT-derived data insights, cloud technology, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

Quanterion Solutions, a local technical solutions provider, led the event instruction with facilitation and hosting by the Griffiss Institute and sponsorship by AFRL under the ORION ecosystem.

“IoT is rapidly expanding throughout all industries to improve safety, productivity and profitability of operations,” said Cully Patch, Senior Program Manager at Quanterion Solutions. “However, it is critical for organizations to effectively, securely, and resiliently implement these dynamic technologies to be successful. The foundational concepts in the IoT 101 Workshop were intended to equip professionals to pursue a practical and informed approach to IoT technology.”

ORION’s next professional workshop is titled “Defense Industrial Base (DIB) 4.0,” which will be hosted on Friday, June 21 at the Innovare Advancement Center in Rome, NY. Registration is open at: https://orionassured.com/defense-industrial-base-workshop Applications will be accepted through Monday, June 17.
